Tristram Lansdowne
La pratique de Tristram Lansdowne explore les représentations historiques et culturelles de l’espace organisé, en examinant les façons dont l’architecture est utilisée pour exprimer le désir et le contrôle. Ses œuvres récentes examinent le contenu psycho-spatial de l’habitation moderniste contemporaine, en accordant une attention particulière aux effets de la culture du design mondialisée et des technologies de rendu numérique. À travers ses aquarelles détaillées, ses dessins, ses sculptures et ses gravures, Lansdowne explore la construction de la maison en tant qu’image, déconstruisant l'artifice de la surface en reproduisant les processus numériques à la main. Les inversions de formes bidimensionnelles et tridimensionnelles associées aux changements de perspective déstabilisent la position du spectateur, réinscrivant l'esthétique de l'espace domestique et demandant à qui, le cas échéant, cette maison idéale est destinée.
Originaire de Victoria (CB), Tristram Lansdowne vit et travaille à Toronto (ON). Il est titulaire d’une maîtrise en beaux-arts du Rhode Island School of Design (2016) et d’un baccalauréat en beaux-arts du Ontario College of Art & Design (2007). Son travail a été exposé dans plusieurs musées et galeries à travers l’Amérique du Nord et le Royaume-Uni, incluant le Kitchener Waterloo Art Gallery, Bonington Gallery - Nottingham Trent University, ou encore à la Mendel Art Gallery. Son travail se retrouve dans de nombreuses collections privées et publiques au Canada et aux États-Unis, incluant le Musée des beaux-arts du Canada, la Banque TD, la Banque Royale du Canada, la BMO Banque de Montréal, la Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago et le Kimmel Harding Nelson Center.
