Emmanuel Osahor
La pratique d'Emmanuel Osahor explore le thème de la beauté en tant que nécessité à la survie et comme étant précurseur à la prospérité. Son travail dépeint le jardin comme étant un sanctuaire construit où se manifestent la beauté et les efforts pour l’entretenir. Il est important pour lui que les jardins créés servent de sanctuaires imaginés et accueillants pour les personnes de couleur comme lui. En privilégiant un engagement avec le beau, son travail offre un espace où l'on peut se pencher sur les espoirs et les complexités inhérents à l'existence contemporaine.
Né au Nigéria, Emmanuel Osahor vit et travaille à Toronto (ON). Il détient une maîtrise en arts visuels de l’Université de Guelph (2021) et un baccalauréat en art et design de l’Université de l’Alberta (2015). Son travail a été présenté dans de multiples expositions individuelles et collectives, incluant au Museum of Contemporary Art de Toronto, au Art Gallery of Alberta, à la SNAP gallery, et au Works International Festival of Art and Design. En 2014, Emmanuel Osahor a été le lauréat provincial du BMO 1st art Competition, représentant la province de l’Alberta, en 2018, il a reçu la mention honorable au 20e RBC Painting competition, et en 2021 il s’est vu décerner le prix post-diplôme en peinture Joseph Plaskett. Son travail se retrouve dans les collections du Musée des beaux-arts de l’Ontario, la Art Gallery of Guelph, la Galerie d’art de l’Alberta, la Banque d’art du Canada, RBC, Scotiabank et la Banque TD.
